About Neuroscience

Neuroscience is the study of the body’s nervous system, combining many topics such as physiology, anatomy, molecular biology, developmental biology, and even mathematical modeling. At its most basic level, neuroscience has allowed us to understand all of the processes that occur with a neuron, or communication cell. This in turn lets us understand how information is sent throughout the nervous system by these neurons and then turned into actionable information in our brains. In fact, the average human brain contains around one hundred billion neurons!

Studying neuroscience has provided great insights into how the nervous system is structured, how it works, how it develops, how it functions (and malfunctions), how it can be altered/repaired, and how it can be changed over time. The nervous system is analyzed by neuroscientists on multiple levels, ranging from molecular and cellular levels to cognitive ones.

Neuroscience in the Classroom

Given that neuroscience studies a very small scale, it can be hard to get first-hand experience with it in a classroom setting. But, principles of neuroscientific studies can be simulated, allowing students to delve deep into their body’s systems from the safety of the classroom.
